Binance is expanding crypto payments in Japan through a new integration between Binance Pay and PayPay, one of the country’s largest QR payment networks.
It provides features which allow eligible tourists to use the crypto payments at the millions of stores supported by PayPay without a prior exchange of yen or sign up for a local payment account.
Binance Pay Connects Crypto to Japan’s PayPay Network
Japan is also allowing tourists to pay using crypto in the local retail market while they are travelling the country using their Binance account balance.
A merchant can have a code to open Binance Pay at checkout, and paykey can read the code to complete the transaction. For some stores, visitors can also scan the store’s PayPay QR and type the amount of the purchase.
The crypto currency is converted in real time to the JPY units and the merchant gets the local currency. That’s no longer a problem because travelers can use digital assets without having to sell them for JPY first or withdraw cash.
The feature is accessible just for tourists to Japan who are Binance ID verified customers. Not usable to Japanese people.

Stablecoins and Major Crypto Assets Can Fund Payments
According to Binance’s description of its QR payment network, Binance Pay currently lets people pay for travel with assets like USDT, USDC, BTC, BNB and ETH.
The payment system will also perform the translation from crypto to fiat with checkout, so that all users still have the same purchasing process in every country.
Additionally, Binance claims that users are not charged any blockchain gas fees when making these payments via Binance Pay.
The solution simplifies the solution for travellers who would otherwise need to spend local currency first or make a separate wallet beforehand to send and receive crypto during travel.
Binance Pay Tourist Activity Jumps 20%
Binance has noted that there is an increasing trend of tourists using cryptocurrencies, with active users rising 20% from July to August 2026.
Japan becomes another market where the firm is expanding its payments with QR code business across Asia.
Instead of creating a new merchant network, Binance Pay integrates with the local payment ecosystem, allowing merchants to seamlessly utilize the QR codes already in use at their physical locations.
The same idea has been used in Vietnam as well, by integrating VietQR for tourists to pay with crypto while local fiat is paid to merchants.

Japan Expands Binance Pay’s Asian QR Footprint
PayPay provides Binance Pay with a vast network of merchants in convenient stores, restaurants and other common venues spread throughout Japan.
The integration is for bitcoin customers to spend cryptocurrencies the same way they spend money, rather than via a whole separate blockchain payment. Binance will roll out this model to other Asia-Pacific and other markets where QR payment is already popular.
The company is focusing on markets with strong tourist traffic and established QR infrastructure, allowing travelers to use one Binance Pay account across multiple destinations without changing their payment setup each time.
